In my last entry I shared the story of how we rescued HONEY from a horse auction in Norco, CA. Our plan was to nurse her to better health and hopefully get her adopted to a good family. Well since that night we have helped her find her forever home, and today we brought home our newest permanent family member DIESEL.
DIESEL is a 7 year old gelding (male) horse who has been under the care of Val's friend Heather for the last several months. He is not a rescue horse to us. He is a permanent addition and I'm looking forward to seeing him get healthier over the coming months. Below are a couple sample shots of DIESEL and his first day at the ranch. If you'd like to see the rest of the shots you can click on the images themselves or just click HERE to check out my HORSES AND RODEO gallery.

This past week has been a crazy one. Heading in to the weekend the plan was to help Val move the horses to a new boarding facility on Saturday and document our adventure with my cameras. Then on Sunday I had planned on making an appearance at this month's installment of the Cruisin Coco's Car Show.
Things didn't go as planned for us at all on Saturday. We were running about two hours behind schedule due to the manager of our old facility holding us up by nearly begging us to not move the horses. Then Val's friend Heather invited us to an Auction that night where we might be able to help rescue a horse from potential slaughter. Being the animal lovers that we are we couldn't say no to possibly helping out and thus made the drive from San Diego to Norco, which is about an hour North of San Diego, and about 40 minutes East of L.A.
That night we helped rescue a 7 year old mare named Kahlua (see the first photo below) from who knows what kind of fate she would have faced had she went to someone else. With Kahlua in our care the plan was for Val to use her years of horse experience to help nurse her back to health, with the long term plan of finding her a Forever Home with hopefully good parents. The first night she was here she was very jumpy to the touch, and didn't eat much. But the second day she seemed to settle down and was very good around me while I spent time with her.
Amazingly enough word got out that we had her, and that she was doing so well that Heather had found a potential new family for Kahlua in just 3 days. So, after spending several hours with her tonight, Kahlua was officially adopted by her new parents and is now living on a Ranch in Winchester, CA (about halfway between San Diego and Norco).
So now here we are with an empty 3rd stall at our new boarding facility but only 2 horses. Oddly enough Val's friend Heather made a startling comment that she is spread to thin with her horse rescue and has decided to scale back some by selling some of the horses in her care. And of course she happens to own a particular gelding that Val has been interested in for quite some time. Depending on how things unfold, we could have ANOTHER new horse in our stable in the coming weeks, and I will definitely have an update for you all on here along with photos of our new family member.
Another cool part of our new boarding facility is that our Black Lab Shaky can come with us like he used to do when Val first got back into horses last year. This first pic below is Shaky introducing himself to Lucky, the newest member of the pack of animals that live on the ranch where Whiskey and Domino now stay. The second pic is a close up of the cute little guy. Lucky earned his name when he was found scrambling for his life in traffic on a busy street in Escondido a few weeks ago.

Lastly, I didn't make it to the Cruisin' Coco's Car Show because I ended up spending the morning watching both the NASCAR race in Michigan and the American LeMans Series race from Mid-Ohio. Then I spent the afternoon fine tuning the new exhaust set up on my Mustang, and did two road tests in order to make sure everything was good to go. For more updates on my Mustang visit the Bensgarage link at the top of the page.

No new photoshoots from this past weekend, but I did spend sometime installing my new exhaust system on my Mustang. So all of you car buffs out there can click HERE or on the image below to be taken to my special BENSGARAGE page dedicated to my Mustang and it's never ending modifications.

Teaser Shot of "Christmas in July" for me and my Mustang. I know it's August already but July sounds better. haha...Any car lovers out there might be able to figure out exactly what parts these are and what brand name by the partially covered logo shown in the pic. If not, you can check back for the install update coming soon. :)

No photoshoots this weekend. But I did manage to get these two shots with my Droid while running around town. This first shot is of a very cool OLD Ford Tractor I came across while checking out a possible new boarding facility on a Ranch in Valley Center.
This next shot was taken just after sunset at our normal boarding facility after giving the boys their dinner. I'm still pretty surprised at how decent the shots that this phone gets.

I've been busy with my day job and a few other things lately so I haven't gone out to shoot any new material. But I am working on a couple new project ideas that should be pretty cool once I finish them. Some of the ideas are simple one day shoots, the others are pretty large projects that could take weeks and even months. But once they are done I think you will like them.

While backing up my files tonight I came across this old picture of Shaky in my archives and thought I'd share it with you all.

Here's a sample of my latest work that was done at today's Cruisin Coco's Car Show near my house here in Rancho Bernardo. The shot below was taken thru the back window of a 1920s era car, not sure if it was a 1928 LaSalle or Lancia, but the reflections are from my grey t-shirt. I love this shot because it would be very intimidating to see those three cars coming at you at the same time. There is Bryce's White Ford Falcon on the left, his Dad's Black Ford Mustang, and last but not least that is my Grey Mustang GT on the right.
You can CLICK on the image below to be taken to my full AUTOMOTIVE gallery to see the rest (the first 13 images in the gallery are from today's event).

Last weekend I replaced the Original Equipment set of Continental Tires on my 07 Sentra Spec V with a brand new set of BFGoodrich g-Force Sports and I love them already. Val and I took a short road trip out to Lake Cuyamaca in Julian for lunch today and I had alot of fun testing out how well they grip on those whindy roads. Here is a pic of the new shoes on the car for those car lovers out there.

Val and I stopped by the Ranch to check on the boys after work on Friday night when I snapped this pic with my Droid. Pretty nice shot for a Cell Phone Camera.

Starting something random and new with my Droid, or should I say BLEDROID? lol..Sorry I couldn't resist. Anyways I think I will start seeing exactly what I can capture with my new phone while I'm running around San Diego during the week. So far I'm quite impressed with the image quality I've been able to get.
I snapped this first image in the parking structure at work today, and it just about sums up how my week has gone so far...

So how's your week going so far? :)

I took the cover off of my Mustang today to go for a spin around San Diego when I found myself sitting at a light behind a Black Dodge Charger. Which made me ask the question: "What would Steve McQueen do in this situation?" lol (Only a McQueen fan would know what I'm getting at with this one).

This past 4th of July weekend was my first realy Holiday weekend off in 8 years and I definitely enjoyed every minute of it. Val and I went on a trail ride with Whiskey and Domino, I fixed some things around the house (got to buy a new drill in the process), detailed both my Mustang and Sentra, and enjoyed shooting pics and talking to some fellow Hot Rod lovers at the annual "Wheels of Freedom" car show near my house here in San Diego.

Two things to share from this past week. I finally stepped into the 21st Century with my new Motorola Droid (thanks to Val), and I absolutely love it!
I took it with me when we spent some time with the horses yesterday and you can check out my "test" shots on my BLEIMAGES Facebook page.
Val and I also stopped by the Zoo the other day and I snapped a pic of this cool Turtle "Posing" for my regular camera.

I've still been pretty busy with things in my daily life lately. Which is the obvious reason why I haven't added any new work to my website recently. But with the 4th of July coming I know I'll be able to get some opportunities to shoot.

This past week has been a busy one for me with everything I got going on right now. Which is why it took me until today to finish going thru all the photos I took last weekend and get them uploaded.

Big car event weekend for me for the first time in ages. Val and I went to Cruisin' Grand in Escondido last night, and today I went to the "Friends of Steve McQueen Charity Car Show" benefitting the Boys Republic boys school McQueen attended during his teenage years.
Here is a teaser from Cruisin' Grand
and here is a teaser from the Friens of Steve McQueen show
As expected I have a ton of images to go thru so I probably won't have the galleries updated for a few days.
Memorial Day. Monday, May 31, 2010
I have entered my first International Photography Contest tonight. I submitted a portfolio of my work into the annual ArtistsWanted.org Photography Competition: EXPOSURE.
Here is a direct excerpt from the artistswanted.org website describing the intent behind the competition and how you can vote:
Q: What's this open call all about?
A: Photography is power. In a world of images, the camera is a tool powerful enough to change the world as we know it. We are all armed with a camera, but great photographers capture moments and build concepts that speak beyond the bounds of the frame. Exposure is an international open call for inspired photography. This opportunity is open to photographers of all backgrounds who are able to speak exquisitely in the language of lenses and aperture. Every artist who submits to Exposure will be searchable by collectors, gallerists, press and commercial buyers from all around the world. Our goal is to find talent from around the world and award everyone who participates in ways large and small.
Q: What is the People's Choice Award?
A: The public will cast their vote and the highest rated portfolio will receive $2,000 in cash, an art-star gallery event in New York City and airfare and shipping to and from New York City for the event. The People's Choice Award is given to whomever has garnered the most votes with the highest star rating.
Q: How do I vote?
A: At the bottom of your portfolio, there are 5 stars. Click on the appropriate star (5 stars being the best) and your vote will be submitted. You may only vote once every 24 hours. Anyone can vote on your portfolio. Encourage friends, family and anyone else to vote your portfolio up so you can win the People's Choice award.
The judging will be completed this July, with the winner announced sometime after that. Up until now I have not truly "promoted" my work outside of my immediate friends and family and this is the first step towards getting my name out there in the photography world. Thank you in advance for taking the time to check out my portfolio page and voting for me in the competition.

Memorial Day. Monday, May 31, 2010
Thank you to all who have served and sacrificed for this country and our freedoms. For without you we all would not be able to enjoy the things in life that we all cherish.

Not much to share on the photography front. Most of my time has been spent on other things including getting Val's truck all set on it's needed maintenance, babysitting a friends dog, reorganizing my entire car parts/supplies and tool box in my garage, and helping Val get a new swing for our patio. Which I might add is pretty sweet when combined with the awesome weather we've had so far this weekend.
This coming week I have a couple of things going on in the photography front. First off I need to decide what photo I'm going to use to enter in a national photography contest (the deadline is tomorrow so I gotta get off my ass on that one). I will share with you whatever picture that ends up being once that decision is made so check back for an update on that. The next thing I have going on is the charity car show I'm going to attend next Saturday.

I had a couple of photoshoot opportunities planned for this week but ALOT of things came up over the last few days that kept me from making them happen. The good news is that both events will be ongoing every week until the end of summer so I have a couple of months to check them out.
But, I DID get a chance to snap some pics of Shaky our Black Lab, and both Whiskey and Domino so check back soon for those updates.
Sunday, May 16, 2010
I had two opportunities to shoot pictures this weekend but amazingly didn't. I chose to take the weekend off and focus on the other things I enjoy in my life. But I do have plans to shoot at a few car related events in the coming weeks so check back for updates with details in the next few days.

It was definitely an interesting site to see yesterday down at Pet Hideaway. The weather was warm, Seaport Village was busy as usual, and there were about 20 dogs all dressed up with the latest line of Pet clothing being offered at the Hideaway. I was there to help out my friends Mike and Nancy by getting pictures of the participants while they ran the show in between assisting their customers. I gotta give it up to them, they deserve major credit for the work they do to keep Pet Hideaway running so smooth with the crowds they have to manage every weekend.
Ok, now back to why I was there, THE PHOTOS! Since this event is not my normal style I've only posted the images I got at the show on my BLEIMAGES Facebook Page (I'm assuming most of my readers have a Facebook page so this shouldn't be an issue). If you are one of the proud parents of one of the dogs in the show and would like to order prints just shoot me a quick email letting me know (ben@bleimages.com).
You can access my page by clicking on the Facebook link on the upper right side of this page or by clicking on the Bulldog photo below.

I'll be heading down to Pet Hideaway at Seaport Village to shoot their Pet Fashion Show today, as well as getting some images that might be included in the 2011 Pet Hideaway Calendar that I have been tabbed to produce for them.
Check back soon for updates and teaser shots from today's festivities.

Just in case you didn't notice, there is a new ICON on the right side of my main page here at bleimages.com and it is a direct link to my new "fan page" on Facebook. I will be posting weekly updates and more on the page, and I hope you take a second to check it out.

Great weather PLUS our horses Whiskey and Domino PLUS passes to the Wild Animal Park EQUALS more great images to add to my galleries. Whiskey and Domino were so willing to provide me with good shots that I couldn't narrow down my favorites to a manageable number. So I've opened a new HORSES AND RODEO IMAGES gallery that will be dedicated to everything I capture of the boys plus their friends in the equine world from now on.
You can check out the new section by clicking HERE, and you can see the shots I was able to get at the Wild Animal Park in the ANIMALS gallery, which can be found HERE.
Below are a few samples of my latest work:

Very thought provoking quote I just read: “Photography, as we all know, is not real at all. It is an illusion of reality with which we create our own private world.” - Arnold Newman.

New feature update: I've changed the way I share my images on my website. From now on I will be posting links to my Photobucket account with general "coverage" shots of events I attend as well as posting my unique "Ben style" shots to my specific galleries. That way you can see what other people might have seen in addition to my twisted view of the world.
That being said, I went to this month's installment of the local Cruisin' Coco's Car Show and you can find those images on my Photobucket account by clicking HERE.
You can also the latest additions to my AUTOMOTIVE gallery by clicking on the image below.

We spent some time with the horses again today and I shot a few more images while we were there. I've uploaded both the images from last weekend and the ones from today to my Horses and Rodeo gallery. Click HERE or on the image below to check them out.

Val and I spent the day yesterday moving the horses, Whiskey and Domino, to their new home. I only had a chance to get some shots of Domino testing out one of the arenas yesterday and I will be adding them to my ANIMALS gallery in the next few days. You can check out a sample image below.

Not much happened this month in regards to photography up to this point besides the Coco's Car show last weekend. Most of my free time has revolved around my other hobby, which is obviously cars, and helping Val with her passion that is her two horses. Which as a matter of fact brings up my next photo shoot opportunity. Val is moving the boys to a new home where they will be able to run free more often, and that of course brings better opportunities for me to get shots of them without lunge lines or halters on. It should be alot of fun to see them just be the horses that they are.

Went to this month's installment of the Cruisin' Coco's Car Show near my house today and I snapped a few new images while I was there. I wasn't able to rent any lenses from Calumet this time around, so I used my Canon Digital Rebel instead. To see all of the images from today just click on the sample below. The new gallery will remain open for a few weeks, while my favorites will be permanently added to my AUTOMOTIVE gallery.
